Environmentally Friendly Glazes and Slips for the Traditional and Antique Type Ceramic Artefacts

This project was a collaborative effort between the National Hellenic Research Foundation (Greece), THETIS authentics Ltd (Greece), and the TUBITAK Marmara Research Center (Turkey), under the Bilateral Cooperation Programme Greece-Turkey.

Project Objectives:

The project aimed to develop and test environmentally friendly ceramic glazes and slips suitable for traditional and antique-type artefacts. By eliminating or reducing the use of harmful substances traditionally present in ceramic coatings, the research sought to combine historical authenticity with modern environmental standards. The work emphasized material analysis, formulation of safe alternatives, and experimental applications on reproductions of historical ceramics.

Project Period: 2003–2005
